About
Avian Adventures - On the Cutting Edge
of Animal Training & Presentation
Avian Adventures is recognized
for its creativity and program presentations.
We specialize in using non-traditional
birds and their behaviors to provide
audiences with unique and spectacular animal
encounters.
Avian Adventures is committed
to connecting humans to the natural world.
Our shows revolve around the natural behavior
of birds. At an Avian Adventures presentation,
you will not see parrots riding bicycles,
roller skating, or playing basketball.
Rather, we strive to introduce audiences
to up close encounters and natural bird
behaviors, which most people find more
interesting and entertaining.

The
entertainment of birds "doing
what they do best" is the vehicle for
a conservation message that is the
underlying theme of every show. We
use only positive reinforcement training
techniques. This type of training yields
the highest level of performance from
the birds, whom are active participants
in the training process.
Avian Adventures is based in Southern
California and our collection represents
over 15 different species from around the
world. Avian Adventures prides itself on
using a wide variety of exotic birds from
around the world and many species we work
with have never been trained or used in
animal education programs. We are home
to several unusual bird species including
blue crown hanging parrots (Loriculus galgulus),
oriental pied hornbills (Anthracoceros
albirostris), East African Crowned Cranes
(Balearica regulorum gibbericeps), Chilean
Flamingos (Phoenicopterus chilensis), and
a large assortment of large hookbill parrots.
All birds at Avian Adventures have been
captive bred and raised by private breeders
and we do not take any birds out of the
wild.
Our state of the art facility offers was
built and developed specifically for our
birds and includes climate controlled enclosures,
simulated daylight and sunsets, and advanced
foraging enrichment systems to ensure optimal
mental health and stimulation.
Brandon A. Melanese,
Founder, Training Director
Brandon has always had a
strong love for animals, especially the
exotic. He has worked with and trained
various animals including household pets
like rats, dogs, cats, and rabbits to the
larger exotics including camels, zebras,
llamas, guanacos, emus, ostriches, water
buffalo, horses (Minis, Saddlebreds, and
Clydesdales), Asian leopards, mountain
lions, servals, caracals, monitor lizards,
jungle cats, and a wide variety of parrots.
Brandon's true passion has always been
birds, especially parrots, hornbills, toucans,
and softbills.
As a young boy, Brandon's
1st bird was a Goffin Cockatoo given to
him by his parents on his 13th birthday.
From there, his love for birds took off
and over the years continued to collect
and work with some of the worlds most interesting
and beautiful "feathered friends."

Brandon founded Avian Adventures
in 2005 with a strong emphasis on educating
the public about birds and the importance
of conservation and captive breeding programs.
Brandon is an a accomplished avian, cat,
and dog trainer and is a member to several
nationally recognized and respected organizations
including the Zoological
Association of America (ZAOA),
American
Federation of Aviculture (AFA),
International
Marine Animal Trainers Association (IMATA), Pet
Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC).
During Brandon's spare time,
he enjoys spending time with his Standard
Poodle and French Bulldog. He also is an
accomplished dog handler and shows his
poodles professionally around Southern
California. He is the Vice President for
the San Diego Cocker Spaniel Club, board
directors for the San Diego Poodle Club
and is active in several local dog and
bird clubs. Brandon has also started a
captive breeding program for the blue crowned
hanging parrot.
